120 of the most talented young professional musicians from across the world join together to form the Aldeburgh World Orchestra. Sir Mark Elder conducts performances of Britten, Mahler, Shostakovitch and Stravinsky, as well as the world premiere of a new commission I received from the BBC. Having come through the Britten–Pears Young Artist Programme and having close connections with Aldeburgh Music, I’m thrilled to have been invited to write a new work for such a wonderfully unique orchestra.

A very exciting summer is fast approaching and you will be able to follow our journey on The Space.

The first of a three-part film series to document the orchestra’s journey introduces some of the musicians and the creative team behind the venture. You can sneak a glimpse of me talking briefly about the inspiration behind my new work.

Part two, coming in July, will see the full orchestra meet for the first time for rehearsals, and follow the epic journey that orchestral participants will embark on leading up to their first performances in the Snape Maltings Concert Hall.
